SUPPORTING THE FORTNUM FOUNDATION: MARCH 2023 UPDATE

In partnership with the Fortnum Foundation, Dobbrick Financial Services proudly sponsors an organisation called Love Mercy Australia. Love Mercy exists to empower communities in northern Uganda to overcome poverty caused by the horrors of war. Their vision is to see communities in northern Uganda thriving independently, by increasing access to health care, clean water, food security and income generation.

It is very satisfying to see these projects having impact on the ground. Here is a quick update on three of Love Mercy's initiatives.

CENTS FOR SEEDS

Cents for Seeds is a micro-loan project in northern Uganda. Uganda is home to some of the most fertile land in the world. However, in the years following the war, the people did not have anything to farm with - enter, Cents for Seeds. Beginning in 2010 with just 100 women, Cents for Seeds reached 19,000 women, with 2,551 women graduated from 3 sub-counties.

Reverse distribution of seeds has now been completed in 33 parishes in the districts of Lira, Alebtong and Otuke.

The team in Uganda is now assessing the quantity and quality of seeds available for distribution in March and are undertaking registration of the women joining the program this year, including 1,500 new women.

tHE Kristina Health Centre

The Kristina Health Centre was officially opened in August 2012. The clinic has been treating the local community with some patients travelling up to 50 kms in one day on foot to reach the health centre. Kristina provides maternity services, primary medical care including triage and appropriate treatment, disease testing, inoculation, medication dispensing and education. The most common illnesses are malaria, typhoid, cough and flu, pneumonia and other serious conditions including internal organ issues requiring referral to Lira Regional Hospital.

Last month 681 patients attended KHC.

23 new babies were born to kick off 2023! 168 women accessed maternity, antenatal and postnatal care, and 94 patients accessed ultrasound services.

Thanks to the support of the Fortnum Foundation and others they can ensure these essential services are available when the community needs them most.

THE MOTHER RUN

Every day in Uganda, 15 women die due to complications related to pregnancy and childbirth.

For the 3rd year running, The Mother Run is happening in May to bring accessible maternal health care to women in remote northern Uganda.

Your 5km a day - moving however you like - will contribute to fundraising for vital pieces of equipment and services at Kristina Health Centre. You will be helping to ensure women have access to safe birth and maternity care.
